The last over of the day proved incendiary as Poreporena, needing 12 to win, were given a blatant hand by clubman Rarua Agalu standing as square leg umpire when he chose not to give his own team captain John Ovia out for a clear-cut run out off the first ball."

Ah, it must be tough being a tabloid reporter in the silly season.

My best wishes to the Urbans on their future bundle of joy. Meanwhile, I feel a deep sorrow for Steve Bucknor. He's done nothing more heinous than have an off day (well, an off five days in fact).

Rashid Latif, former Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper turned serial dial-a-quote, has come up with A Great Idea.

Latif has suggested that selectors should consult with the umpires before choosing their starting eleven.

Woman umpire in men's Test breakthrough

New Zealand umpire Kathy Cross achieved a new milestone in the men's game during the Second Test between the New Zealand men and England at the Basin Reserve, Wellington in March. The 44 year-old from Hutt Valley was appointed as fourth umpire for the Test, the first time that a woman has been included among the umpiring team for a men's international cricket match.
