IWC meeting set to start, Japan seeks small-scale coastal whaling (Kyodo via Yahoo! Asia News)
"The International Whaling Commission will begin a three-day annual meeting Monday in Anchorage, Alaska, with Japan seeking the resumption of small-scale coastal whaling."
Well, the Kyodo News Agency would say that, wouldn't it?
Meanwhile, Norway, the country that gave the world Gro Harlem Bruntland, regards the anti-whaling constituency as hypocrites, according to Agence France-Presse.
Norwegian IWC delegate Karsten Klepsvik describes the USA as the world's biggest whaler. The hunting of Bowhead whales by Alaskan eskimos is not under any great dispute at this IWC meeting, nor is any genuine aboriginal subsistence hunting.
Here's a report, with video, from ABC News Alaska with state Senator Ted Stevens who will be speaking at IWC59 in defence of the eskimo Bowhead hunt.
