The rugby league media's knickers were firmly in a twist on Tuesday when they were summoned to Wollongong for a press conference with St George fullback Darius Boyd that lasted a whole 43 seconds. This is the complete transcript of the event:
"Q: Up against the Broncos, excited about facing your old mates?
DB: Yeah, can't wait.
Q: That excited?
DB: Yep.
Q: Did you watch them play last week?
DB: No I didn't.
Q: What's the strategy going into the game?
DB: We'll decide that on Wednesday I suppose.
Q: Happy to score another try, it was a good one?
DB: Yeah, it was good, eh.
Q: Second one of the season, it's taken a while, you must be keen to be coming into form at the right time of the season.
DB: No it was good.
Q: What are your thoughts on the way your team is going at the moment Darius?
DB: Um, yeah, it was pretty good, eh.
Q: Are you fair dinkum?
DB: Yeah."(source: TVNZ)
Personally, I salute Darius for saying exactly what he meant and not talking the meaningless sanitised twaddle that elite contract-laden sportspeople have to expunge in the name of justifying the media's existence.
Now, if only Ricky Ponting could give interviews like Darius Boyd...
