Day One of the 2006 ICC Under-19 World Cup on Sunday after an opening ceremony on Saturday (report from Sunday Observer, plus the official ICC report). Winners on Sunday: Bangladesh over New Zealand, Australia over South Africa, Sri Lanka over Scotland and Zimbabwe over Ireland.
Bangladesh's win was no big prize, they are actually one of the more fancied teams in the tournament (preview from Sunday's Daily Star).
Australia had a poor warmup series, losing to both Pakistan and India during the week, but they flogged South Africa by 175 runs in the opening round of the cup. Tom Cooper's 104 was the first century of the 2006 Cup. Cooper plays for the University of NSW in the Sydney comp.
Big win to Zimbabwe, by 119 runs, bowling Ireland out for 97. It's probably the only acticve international team Zimbabwe have left.
